We did not start this company.

Life started it for us.

Genao Home Care was founded by three women who each cared for their own parents and grandparents — and built the organization they wished had existed. This is not a business story. It is a personal one. And it shapes everything we do.

Our story

Born from

lived experience.

"We built what we wished had existed — for our own families, and for every family that deserves the same."

There is a moment many families recognize — the one where you realize that the person who raised you now needs you to show up for them. It arrives differently for everyone. A fall. A diagnosis. A slow accumulation of days where they struggle with things they never used to. And suddenly you are searching: for someone trustworthy, someone trained, someone who will care for your parent the way you would care for them yourself.

Diana Genao, Elogidina Genao, and Tania Torres each lived that moment. Before they were co-founders, before they held the titles of CEO, CFO, and COO — they were daughters and granddaughters, sitting at kitchen tables and hospital waiting rooms, trying to navigate a home care system that too often felt impersonal, inconsistent, and indifferent to the people it served. They searched for an organization they could trust completely. They did not find one.

The founding decision

“If no one has built what families truly need, then we will build it ourselves.”

So they built it. Three women with complementary expertise and a shared conviction: that home care in Pennsylvania could be delivered at a world-class standard, that Medicaid families deserve identical quality to privately paying families, that caregivers deserve to be treated as the professionals they are, and that every person — regardless of ability or circumstance — has the right to an everyday life lived on their own terms.

Genao Home Care was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania — a community built on family, faith, and the belief that neighbors take care of each other. That spirit is the DNA of everything we do. It is in the way our caregivers introduce themselves at the door. It is in the way our founders pick up the phone. It is in the care plans we write, the standards we hold, and the promise we renew every single day: that the family we serve today will receive the same attention and excellence we give our own.

Our vision

To deliver care that honors every person’s right to dignity, independence, and an everyday life lived on their own terms.

We deliver person-centered, compassionate home and community-based care grounded in Pennsylvania’s ODP Everyday Lives: Values in Action framework. Our mission is not simply to provide services — it is to support lives. Every care plan, every caregiver match, every home visit is guided by a single question: does this help this person live the life they deserve?

Our vision

A Pennsylvania where every individual experiences a full life — regardless of ability, circumstance, or how care is funded.

What we stand for

What we stand for
Six values.

These are not aspirations on a wall. They are the criteria by which every decision at Genao Home Care is made — from how we hire caregivers to how we answer the phone. Each value traces directly to Pennsylvania’s ODP Everyday Lives framework, because we believe what it believes: that every person deserves a full, self-directed life.

Core value one

Self-Determination

1

Every person we serve is the author of their own life. They decide what care looks like, who provides it, when it happens, and how it fits into the life they want to live. Our role is never to manage their choices — it is to make those choices possible. We follow their lead, always. We hold their preferences with the same gravity we hold their safety.

ODP Everyday Lives alignment: Choice · Control · Self-Direction

Core value two

Dignity Without Exception

11

Dignity is not something we deliver alongside care — it is the foundation upon which every act of care is built. It does not vary by diagnosis, funding source, age, or ability. The person who receives care through Medicaid and the person who pays privately receive the same caregiver, the same attention, the same standard. There is no secondary tier at Genao. There never will be.

ODP Everyday Lives alignment: Individuality · Respect · Equity

Community & Belonging

Every person we serve is the author of their own life. They decide what care looks like, who provides it, when it happens, and how it fits into the life they want to live. Our role is never to manage their choices — it is to make those choices possible. We follow their lead, always. We hold their preferences with the same gravity we hold their safety.

ODP alignment: Inclusion · Relationships · Community Participation

Safety Through Excellence

Safety and compassion are not opposing forces. Genao applies ISO 45001 — the world’s leading occupational safety standard — to every care environment. Every protocol is engineered, not assumed. Because the most loving thing we can do is also be the most rigorous.

ODP alignment: Health & Safety · Accountability · Quality

Family as Foundation

We were built by people who understand what family means — the weight of it, the love in it, and the fear that comes when a family member needs care. We treat every family we serve as we would want our own to be treated. That is not a tagline. It is the founding principle of this organization.

ODP alignment: Relationships · Stability · Natural Supports

A Life Without Limits

We do not measure success by how well we maintain someone’s current situation. We measure it by how well we help them move toward the life they want. Every care plan asks: what is possible for this person? And then we work toward that — one day, one milestone, one door opened at a time.

ODP alignment: Success · Independence · Growth

For us, this is not just care.

It is personal.

And we never let ourselves forget it.

“People with disabilities have a right to an everyday lifea life that is no different than that of all other citizens.
